Christmas Day at Spencer Street is officially OUT NOW !!! It won’t be available in shops any time soon so you’ll either have to come to a show – or if you want to buy a copy on line click on: http://popboomerangrecords.
It’s nine tracks and 33.33 minutes long, it’ll be available in CD, 12″ vinyl and digital download formats, the cover features two brand new lino cut prints and it’s pretty much good to go. It’s called “Christmas Day at Spencer St” and the good folk at Popboomerang Records are thinking it should be in the shops by the end of November.
For a record that was conceived as a collection of tour oddities and recorded in two days it has come up remarkably coherent – both sonically and conceptually. There’s pretty much all of the Melbourne chapter of the Roving Commission playing on there and having that many players meant that everyone had to be pretty comfortable about the parts they were trying to execute. And so I get the feeling it is going to be an easy record to play live – Pretty much the way Donkey Serenade was for the Weddings which actually ended up being a significant watershed in the overall scheme of things.
There is a decent looking Christmas tour kicking off in November that takes us pretty much right ’round the country so from a bunch of old songs comes a new beginning. And it’s always good to have some different songs to play.
